Monterey Bay Aquarium - Seafood Watch

Seafood Watch raises consumer awareness through our pocket guides, website, mobile applications and outreach efforts. We encourage restaurants, distributors and seafood purveyors to purchase from sustainable sources.

Seafood Watch recommendations are science-based, peer reviewed, and use ecosystem-based criteria. Since 1999, we've distributed tens of millions of pocket guides, our iPhone application has been downloaded more than 240,000 times, and we have close to 200 partners across North America, including the two largest food service companies in the U.S.

Global Aquaculture Alliance

The Global Aquaculture Alliance is an international, nonprofit trade association dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture. GAA recognizes that aquaculture -- the culture and farming of shrimp, fish, shellfish and other aquatic organisms -- is the only sustainable means of increasing seafood supply to meet the food needs of the world's growing population.

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) was founded in 2006 as an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) capable of breaking new ground in the world of sustainable seafood and marine and freshwater conservation.

Marine Stewardship Council

The MSC's fishery certification program and seafood ecolabel recognize and reward sustainable fishing. They are a global organization working with fisheries, seafood companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public to promote the best environmental choice in seafood. They are known as the world's leading certification and ecolabeling program. Seattle Fish Company of New Mexico is an MSC Chain of Custody Certified Supplier.

The Aquaculture Certification Council

Aquaculture Certification Council, Inc. is a nongovernmental body established to certify social, environmental and food safety standards at aquaculture facilities throughout the world. This nonprofit, nonmember public benefit corporation applies the Global Aquaculture Alliance Best Aquaculture Practices standards in a certification system that combines site inspections and effluent sampling with sanitary controls, therapeutic controls and traceability.

Seafood Choices Alliance

Seafood Choices Alliance is an international program that provides leadership and creates opportunities for change across the seafood industry and ocean conservation community. Founded in the United States in 2001, Seafood Choices helps the seafood industry— from fishermen and fish farmers to processors, distributors, retailers, restaurants, and food service providers —to make the seafood marketplace environmentally, economically and socially sustainable.

On online network, FishChoice.com seeks to connect seafood buyers to suppliers of sustainable seafood products. It works with several recognized seafood conservation organizations and lists the products of a supplier that are identified as meeting sustainability requirements of one or more of these partners in an easy to follow format that compares the ratings of each organization for each product.
