Alaska Weathervane Scallop
Alaskan Weathervane Scallops are recognized around the world as one of the finest Scallops available. Their sweet flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture will delight everyone. The anatomy of Scallops is quite interesting, with the adductor muscle and up to a hundred bright blue eyes. The Alaskan Scallop is wild, naturally pure and certified sustainable by The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute - ASMI. Alaska has pioneered the standard for sustainable, eco-friendly fisheries management. These practices ensure a healthy, wild and sustainable harvest that also protects against overfishing and habitat damage.
Alaska Weathervane Scallops inhabit waters of 30 to 70 fathoms and may live up to 25 years but are generally harvested between 7 and 15 years of age. Although there are other species of Scallops found in Alaskan waters, the Alaskan Weathervane Scallop is the only one currently targeted by commercial harvesters.
